NASCAR drivers quickly got into action after the green flag dropped for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday. Aside from winning the race, drivers tried to grab a few well-needed stage points for early-race excellence. Too fast – we may add, as pit lane became a speed trap, which led to the issuance of 13 speeding penalties.
Fans are now left to ponder what sanctions will be brought against AJ Allmendinger and the No. 47 team for lug nut violations. Kevin Harvick cost himself the win by speeding on pit road, Brad Keselowski surged late for the Atlanta victory, Kyle Larson lost the lead to finish second, Matt Kenseth salvaged a third-place run, Kasey Kahne left Atlanta as the top-finishing Hendrick driver, Martin Truex Jr. finished eighth despite clutch issues as well as speeding penalty, and Chase Elliott made another strong run but came up short.
