Talk Around The Track: The No. 3 Back In Victory Lane At Daytona

Austin diillon daytona 500

Another page was added to the NASCAR history books with permanent ink in more than one way on Sunday when Austin Dillon steered the iconic No. 3 car back into victory lane on the 20-year anniversary of the first and only win by racing legend, Dale Earnhardt Sr. Dillon had an “Intimidator” moment when he raced Aric Almirola hard on the last lap to clinch his first Daytona 500 victory.

And not to be overlooked, Darrell “Bubba” Wallace, the first African-American to race in the Cup Series since 1969 raced his way to a second-place finish, the best for any first-timer at Daytona. Bubba’s accomplishment was so momentous, the 80-year-old “King” Richard Petty couldn’t resist taking a speedy trek down pit road to find his subject.
