The Ford Championship Weekend concluded what will undoubtedly go down in the annals as a remarkable year in NASCAR history with the non-stop activities and storylines. Martin Truex Jr. has earned his right to be called Champion after speeding across the finish line at Homestead-Miami Speedway to claim his eighth victory of the season and be crowned the 2017 Monster Energy Cup Series Champion—a fitting finale to a dominant season for Truex Jr. A pit decision and late-race caution derailed Kyle Busch who made a valiant—but fruitless–attempt to close the gap and recover the lead, but he was no match for an unrelenting Truex Jr. Kyle Busch also blames his “good buddy” Joey Logano for hampering his chance of winning a second championship title. Kevin Harvick who was also a contender for the title “didn’t quite have what was needed at the end,” and Dale Jr. savored his last Cup race with a party on pit road.
