Everyone has an opinion of who they would consider the best driver in NASCAR’s modern era. Many fans say championships rule everything while others believe it’s all about wins. We asked our Twitter peeps their thoughts, and we got an ear (in this case a read full). Some say Dale Earnhardt Sr. and others say Jeff Gordon. A few fans through Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart’s name out there. We have our own thoughts, but here are the opinions of a few diehard fans.

Question: If we are talking best driver in the modern era (and that’s a big IF), who do you want on your team? Why? And” if you pick someone else who? #NASCARTalk

Answers:
@TonyStewart. The man can win in anything.

Jeff has the most wins (did it with one team and multiple crew chiefs). Would have 7 championships if the old points format was kept (2004, 2007, 2014). He exposed the sport to new audiences (SNL, Regis & Kelly, etc). And he was not afraid to fight someone.

Gordon is the best all around racer.

A2: I think currently, it would be Kyle Busch. I feel like he is one of the greatest talents we've seen. Love him or hate him, I feel like he's done nothing but dominate at every possible level.

Tony Stewart

A2. Putting all personal feels aside. (Even tho the guy IS growing on me). I'd put Kyle in whatever vehicle I owned, because I know he could not only drive it, but thoroughly understand it, give feedback, and kick a$$ on race day. And he HATES losing! That's my driver #NASCARTalk

Jeff Gordon. Off race craft and raw talent, he did so much so quickly and maintained that for 20+ years that it is incredible. Champion by his third season, took the sport to new heights nationally and globally in. Massive impact for the betterment of sport to this day.

In modern era? Dale Earnhardt Sr.
— Devin Mahoney (@Devin41) March 12, 2019
Joey Logano. Young & so much driving talent.
— Dave Harris (@GiveMeAProject) March 12, 2019
Dale Sr. Most talented driver since 1972, the Modern Era's beginning (excluding Richard Petty). Little bit of personal bias.

Id pick Mark Martin, because Id be assuming Id want to grow past 1 team. Mark would be able to be a popular driver that could immediately attract sponsorship, fans and camaraderie in the garage. If I could bring up a young driver, Mark would also be a great teammate and coach

Kyle Busch, he can drive anything and given a chance gets the job done. Not always the best car on the track but he gets everything out of it he can.
