3 Questions With NASCAR Driver Austin Dillon

Nascar champions week 32

Our mission in Las Vegas during NASCAR Champion’s Week was simple; track down and ask each of our Fantastic 4 members at least one question. Who are the Fantastic 4? Austin Dillon, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, and our honorary member, Chris Buescher. Yes, we can count. We know we listed five drivers, but if you listen to the All Turns No Brakes podcast, you know that rookie driver, Chris Buescher, who made The Chase this year by winning a fog-shortened race at Pocono, is an honorary member of the Fantastic 4. Everyone, except Ryan Blaney, was on hand in Las Vegas and luckily for us; we did catch up with the three members who were available, including Austin Dillon.

Immediately after NASCAR’s Myers Brothers Luncheon at the Wynn Encore in Las Vegas, all 16 Chase drivers were present and available to answer questions in the media room. The plan was for Tam to snap photos and film video while Rene asked questions. However, when Tam saw Austin Dillon sitting alone for a brief moment and she got a full view of his “colorful threads,” she couldn’t resist asking just one, maybe three questions. Here’s what Tam asked:

Tam: Are you excited for your brother [Ty Dillon] to be moving up to Cup Series?

Austin Dillon: Yeah, It’s going to be…It’s really exciting. I get another guy to look at. As far as his driver traces, I get to look at data on my grace weekend and then see what he does, and hopefully, we can work together to make each other better. And he just brings a little bit more knowledge to my team, having him there and racing.

Tam: With all that being said and this is going to be probably the dumbest question…

Austin Dillon: No, I don’t care, ask a dumb question

Tam: What do you foresee next year in terms of, who is going to get that first win?

Austin Dillon: Man, I feel like, that is our only goal next year, is to win a race. That is what we’re going to go for. This year it was to win a race and make The Chase. We made The Chase, so we know what it is like to do that. We need to win and that’s what our total mindset will be those first 26 races so I’m going to pick me obviously. So, I want to be in that final four and I want to be standing over on that side of the room next year.

Tam: Here’s a funny question. As you can see I am a bit colorful.

Austin: It’s good to be colorful. I’m colorful. [laughs]

Tam: The suit! [laughter] I always make the joke that I would run my mother off the road. He [Rene] knows this, I have no shame.

Rene: Yes, she would.

Tam: With you and your brother now competing against each other, if you’re at the finish line, are you going to bump and go for the win?

Austin Dillon: Yeah. He knows it’s coming. Oh yeah. We’re both going to go for the win in Cup Series.

Rene: [laughs] I’m sure he would probably say the same thing, right?

Austin Dillon: Yeah, exactly. But, if we’re not in contention, we will be pulling for each other. Him, the same.

Rene: Oh! That’s fantastic.
