Despite a very humorous comment by Michael Waltrip during a pre-race grid walk, where he referred to her as the late and great singer, Donna Summer, Tam isn’t a disco singer from the ‘70s. She didn’t mind the reference or the social media attention the remark got her, but she considers herself instead an established spokesperson for NASCAR. She uses her knowledge to help NASCAR grow an enriched, ethnically diverse fan base, and she’s part of the audience that NASCAR wants to reach. She is confident she’ll help further their mission to engage women and minorities, including fans with wide-ranging ethnic and racial backgrounds.

After delving deep into the world of NASCAR, Tam has done more than the average fan will ever do. Her VIP experiences have shaped her understanding of and connection to the sport. She has driven behind the wheel of a NASCAR car and has gone to pit school. She’s enjoyed lunch with Darryl Waltrip, has been in the winner’s circle with Kyle Busch, attended a driver’s meeting on race day and sat down to talk NASCAR with Joe Gibbs and JD Gibbs. She’s built an engine with the Hendrick Motorsports Performance team, thanks to Valvoline. Rutledge Wood even chased her down on the track to do a live on-camera interview with Speed TV/Fox Sports.

Tam has had the pleasure of interviewing Dale Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Bubba Wallace Jr., Jamie McMurray, Kyle Larson, Cole Whitt and rookie racer Chase Elliott. She has taken NASCAR-related trips with several brands including Valvoline, Crown Royal and Toyota Racing. Her NASCAR articles and photos are published on notable news outlets, including her Cole Whitt photograph on Forbes.com’s website. She spent a day getting to know some of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity drivers, including Bubba Wallace Jr., German Quiroga and Ryan Gifford.

Tam’s been at NASCAR’s Champion’s Week and the award ceremony several times. She attended the 2013 and 2014 Sports Business Journal Marketing Forum, where she had a chance to start dialogue with several influential people in the motorsports industry. She met a NASCAR sponsor marketing rep at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway once who told her she would be a great “diverse” representative of the sport, so she once upon a time applied to be Miss Sprint Cup.

Beyond the five minutes of NASCAR fame she got on Fox Sports, thanks to Michael Waltrip’s comment that also went viral thanks to TMZ and features on Yahoo Sports and Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Tam has established she is here to stay on the NASCAR circuit. Her unconventional NASCAR experiences have afforded her unique insight, an edge that comes from getting beyond the sidelines and into the very heart of the sport’s culture. She has had stimulating conversations with fans about the future of NASCAR and she’s driven to help make NASCAR’s force accessible to everyone.
